First things first: King Felix is goooood. Yeah the first inning was a little shaky, giving up a two run HR to Josh Willingham. But after the first inning he settled down and allowed only three hits over the next eight innings. He also walked nobody while striking out five. Not Felix's most dominating performance, but he got players out even without his strikeout pitch.
We also got some good contributions from the players we should expect it from. Ichiro got a base hit with a runner in scoring position. Figgins didn't beging the season by sucking, so that's a good sign. And Smoak got a timely extra-base hit.
Essentially what we saw today was a glimpse of what this offense might be able to do. If Ichiro can continue to get on base (he will) and steal bases (hopefully) and if Cust, Bradley, and Smoak can contribute with timely hits, this offense has great potential. However, those are some pretty strong "ifs."
Tomorrow: Jason Vargas vs. Anderson. Another "if" game. We'll see if Vargas can continue to be as good as nobody thinks he should be.
