Congratulations to Ichiro, the Seattle Mariner's new hits leader. Of course this was inevitable, but it was gratifying to see him break the record on his 10th anniversary. Was there any other fitting way for him to break the record other than on an infield single? Vintage Ichiro.
Jason Vargas returned to his spring training form, allowing only one run over 6 2/3 innings, striking out six and only walking one. He's no Cliff Lee, but you can tell Vargas learned a lot from Lee during his time in Seattle. Vargas worked with a quick pace and hit his spots when he needed, while also allowing his defense to work behind him. He had running on base almost every inning but worked well out of the stretch and got himself out of some jams. It really was a shame the bullpin couldn't hold on and get him a win.
Today's game: Fister vs. Gonzales, 2:05 EST.
